All the latest Gameweek 6 injury news from each Premier League pre-match press conference ahead of the deadline can be found in our Fixtures, Team News & Predicted Line-ups article

Whilst Man City’s Erling Haaland (£15.3m) suffered his first blank of the season in Gameweek 6 after failing to score away at Newcastle, Mo Salah (£12.7m) was back among the goals as he bagged a winner for Liverpool against Wolves, gaining 10 FPL points in the process.

But the ace of Gameweek 6 was Cole Palmer (£10.7m), the Chelsea star delighting his owners by racking up four goals before half-time vs Brighton, including a free-kick and penalty. His eventual FPL score of 25 points is the highest of the season so far by any fantasy asset across a standalone gameweek.

Now, as we look to enter the latest international break on the back of a high-scoring FPL weekend, three premium captain picks have been singled out for strong consideration in Gameweek 7, along with an alternate differential selection ahead of Saturday’s 11:00am deadline.

PREMIUM OPTIONS

Erling Haaland (£15.3m) vs FUL (H)

After not scoring in a Premier League fixture for the first time this campaign last weekend, Haaland will be determined to put that right at home to Fulham. Of his ten league goals scored already in 2024-25, six have been at the Etihad Stadium and it would be a huge surprise if he was not to increase that number here.

Haaland averages over 10 points accrued per gameweek and is currently the highest-scoring FPL asset in all positions with 65 points to his name as it stands. Captaining the Norwegian represents the safe option in Gameweek 7 as he will surely be given the armband by the vast majority of fantasy bosses.

Cole Palmer (£10.7m) vs NFO (H)

Four goals and 25 FPL points serves as a massive reminder as to why Palmer is one of the key must-own fantasy assets across the entire game. Like Haaland, Palmer also averages over 10 points per gameweek and as a midfielder, his goals count for an extra fantasy point compared to that of a forward, which cannot be underestimated when it comes to choosing a captain.

Chelsea host Nottingham Forest in Gameweek 7 and with six goals and four assists to his name over the course of six gameweek so far, Palmer’s captaincy credentials are sky-high. The key piece of this Chelsea side under Enzo Maresca and with both free kicks and penalties at his disposal, all the ingredients are in place for potentially another big haul.

Mo Salah (£12.7m) vs CRY (a)

Although two lean gameweeks had seen Salah fall behind Haaland when it comes to accumulating fantasy points, the Egyptian bounced back in Gameweek 6, recording a goal and 10 FPL points as Liverpool edged past Wolves in Molineux. Following another goal and assist in the Reds’ Champions League win over Bologna in midweek, Salah now looks to continue picking up attacking returns this weekend.

Arne Slot’s side travel to Crystal Palace in the early Saturday lunchtime kick-off in Gameweek 7. This may see Salah’s captaincy numbers drop, which opens up an opportunity for those FPL bosses willing to take the plunge on Liverpool’s main man ahead of Haaland or Palmer. When considering that Salah has registered a double-figure fantasy score in four of the last six gameweeks, it doesn’t feel as much of a gamble.

DIFFERENTIAL OPTION

Gabriel Martinelli (£6.9m) vs SOU (H)

We could make a case for a number of Arsenal assets to be named your fantasy skipper ahead of the Gunners’ Gameweek 7 match at home to Southampton. With an ownership of under 4% at the time of writing, Martinelli may well prove to be the sleeper pick. Listed as a midfielder, Martinelli is a constant attacking threat out wide and is coming off the back of his best performance to date, recording a goal, an assist and 13 FPL points vs Leicester last weekend.

Whilst the majority of FPL managers are expected to be focusing on teammates such as Bukayo Saka or Kai Havertz, Martinelli could be the one that steals the show against the struggling Saints, who sit inside the Premier League’s bottom three. With that in mind, the Brazilian warrants mentioning when it comes to a differential Gameweek 7 captain.
