This week the FPL world has been positively vibrating with anticipation for a TRIPLE GAMEWEEK for Manchester United and we’ve tried our best to cover the details throughout our Fantasy Football section, where this article resides. The very fact that Alex was able to complete this in-depth assessment of the incoming drama is mightily impressive considering he is still likely unable to sit still at the prospect of utilising these three games over seven days to get within only 100 points of Team TSZ. Roughly just under a fifth of FPL managers have yet to use their Triple Captain chip, which is going to be hilarious when Bruno Fernandes is rested for one game and offers them a poultry five points from two. Still, the question remains: will it be Bruno Fernandes? Will it be Harry Maguire? Will it be Mason Greenwood? Just who will ruin your gameweek? There’s only one way, and seven whole days of torture, to find out.

TRIPLE GAMEWEEK 35 TEAM

Formation: 4-4-2
Captain:
Bruno Fernandes
Vice-captain: Maguire
Transfers made: 1 (Reguilon > Maguire)
Point deductions: 0

Trystan and Alex started this week’s Skype call with their fingers already out and pointed squarely at each other. Unfortunately on my screen this looked as if both of them had a bone to pick with me and so I felt very attacked for the rest of the call. Trystan summarised their points of issue: Alex had picked the wrong goalkeeper in Gameweek 34 and Trystan had picked the wrong captain. I wanted to add that, actually, they are supposed to be a team so really they’re both rubbish but it did not feel like the time. To amend their constant goalkeeping mistakes, Alex suggested a pact for next season that Team TSZ don’t rotate their keepers as if this were a new, shrewd ploy. The rest of us eight million FPL managers are already doing this. We have enough on our plates without having to get a goalkeeper wrong, too.

By the way: this week’s Wrong Goalkeeper Sponsored by The Stats Zone is Emiliano Martinez.

On this week’s triple gameweek selections, Trystan started the ball rolling by exclaiming without irony that “luckily we have Bruno Fernandes already”. Trystan and Alex have been toying with the idea of transferring the Portuguese playmaker out for at least ten weeks. So with their loyalty to Bruno firmly stuck back in place with some hastily gathered blue-tac, a long and boring conversation ensued about whom else to bring into the side. Longer and more boring than usual. If I tell you how it started and leave out the middle you’ll be grateful.

“Let’s look at this logically” said Alex.

Several hours later the chat was briefly halted by the sound of my forehead smashing into the desk. I have only fallen asleep once before in a place of work; for two hours in fact in a temp job at a doctor’s surgery but that’s for another time. After assuring Trystan and Alex that I could continue, they got into a further heated discussion about Mo Salah. Trystan wanted the Liverpool star in for a double gameweek in what has been an under-the-radar season for the Egyptian but Alex’s vision was blinded by the Utd triples. If the player was called anything other than Mason, Marcus or Edinson, Alex was having none of it. He proffered that Salah had never scored away at Old Trafford, although to my short memory that game has been 0-0 since 1908. Trystan made the point that the Red Devils would be tired and that empty stadiums are limiting the home advantage factor. “It is a different old Trafford without fans” conceded Alex, although it was an Old Trafford with fans that caused this mess in the first place. Still, though, power to the people!

In the end, though, plenty was said but very little was done. It is with a sore head and a heavy sigh that I can confirm to you that Team TSZ have sold Sergio Reguilon and brought in Harry Maguire. That’s it.

Thanks for reading, and good luck in the gameweek!
