Kevin De Bruyne (£11.5m) enjoyed a stellar season last time out and he ended with more FPL points than any other player with 251. He pulled the strings in the Man City midfield, providing an unbelievable 23 assists and chipping in with 13 goals. He is easily capable of matching those figures and could be given a helping hand in achieving that having seemingly been handed the penalty-taking duties towards the back end of the last campaign. Even with Pep Guardiola’s tendency to rotate, KDB looks poised to surpass 200 points for the third time in four seasons.

Bruno Fernandes (£10.5m) made a huge impact following his January arrival at Man Utd as he notched 117 points thanks to eight goals and eight assists. Fernandes looks set to assume set-piece duty once again this season but he may have to improve in open play to match the start he made to his FPL career. Man Utd were awarded a league-high 11 penalties last season but that does not seem like a sustainable number and could impact on his return. A full season in a new-look midfield alongside Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek could bring the best out of Fernandes but De Bruyne has consistently delivered in FPL and gets the nod here.

Verdict: Kevin De Bruyne
