FPL season comparisons – Diogo Jota vs Neal Maupay

Wolves' Diogo Jota (£6.4m) is competing in his second season of Premier League action, whilst Neil Maupay (£5.7m) has been playing at this level for the first time following his summer transfer to Brighton from Championship side Brentford. The two forwards have enjoyed solid seasons, with both having purple patches at some stage during the campaign.

Jota did not start the season well but in recent weeks has come into his own, similarly to last season when he had a late surge of attacking returns in the second half of the campaign. The Portuguese forward has scored six Premier League goals so far this season with half of those coming in the last three game weeks. He has also registered three assists with three hauls of 10+ points. Jota has accrued 88 FPL points over the 29 gameweeks played this season.

Maupay has scored eight league goals in the 2019/20 season so far including a spell between gameweeks 15-17 where he scored three goals in three successive games. Maupay also has two assists and when adding his 15 accumulated bonus points, that sees him with a current total of 101 FPL points.

Only £0.5m separated the two players in terms of FPL price at the start of the season. Maupay was the cheaper of the two and remains the cheaper of the two players now. Considering he has also gained 13 more FPL points than Jota over the course of the campaign, that makes him a straightforward choice when deciding who has had the better season from a Fantasy Premier League perspective.

Verdict: Neil Maupay
