FPL Gameweek 9 – head-to-head comparisons: Thiago Silva vs Harry Maguire

He may not have registered a clean sheet in Gameweek 8, but Thiago Silva (£5.5m) scored his first Premier League goal for Chelsea as they beat Sheffield Utd 4-1 at Stamford Bridge. The eight FPL points acquired as a result means that the former PSG defender has racked up 21 FPL points in his last three gameweeks. Man Utd centre-back Harry Maguire (£5.4m) was also on the winning side in Gameweek 8 as they triumphed away at Everton 1-3. However, no clean sheet and no attacking return meant only two FPL points for the England international.

Chelsea make the long trip to Newcastle in Gameweek 9, but Man Utd will enjoy home comforts as they host lowly West Brom at Old Trafford. Both defenders will be confident of clean sheets and each give FPL owners the opportunity of attacking returns due to their aerial threats from set pieces. With home advantage in Man Utd's favour though and Maguire marginally cheaper, he just pips Thiago Silva for us in this head-to-head.

Verdict: Harry Maguire
