We compare two midfielders who between them accumulated 25 FPL points in Gameweek 7. The majority of those points came from James Ward-Prowse (£5.9m) as the Southampton star produced a set piece masterclass, scoring two inch perfect free kicks and directing another onto the head of Jannik Vestergaard for an assist. Ward-Prowse picked up 17 FPL points in total compared to eight points for Daniel Podence (£5.5m). The Wolves man scored against Crystal Palace, his second goal against the Eagles since moving to the Premier League and could have easily had further attacking returns if both he and his teammates were more clinical.

Southampton host Newcastle in Gameweek 8, whilst Wolves travel to Leicester. Priced at £5.9m, Ward-Prowse is the more expensive asset than Podence. However, he not only has the stronger fixture on paper, but also command of those vital set pieces. With Southampton in great goalscoring form having netted 11 goals in their last four games and Ward-Prowse picking up 28 FPL points in the last two gameweeks, we're taking the side of the Saints midfielder in this head-to-head.

Verdict: James Ward-Prowse
