FPL Gameweek 2 – head-to-head comparisons: Tomas Soucek vs Allan Saint-Maximim
Despite not providing an attacking return in Gameweek 1, owners of West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek (£5.0m) had grounds for optimism after what they saw during the Hammers' 0-1 defeat at home to Newcastle. After the Magpies took the lead, Soucek as predicted was pushed forward by West Ham manager David Moyes and utilised virtually as a second striker, getting into the box at every opportunity with his aerial height proving an ample threat from crosses and set pieces. Newcastle's Allan Saint-Maximin (£5.5m) also failed to gain any goals or assists, however he proved an extremely dangerous outlet from out wide and looks an extremely exciting prospect going forward from an FPL perspective, with West Ham resorting to consistently fouling him due to the ferocity of his direct forward runs.
Gameweek 2 sees West Ham travel to Arsenal, whilst Newcastle host Brighton. Whilst Saint-Maximin is priced at £0.5m more expensive than Soucek, his fixture on paper looks to provide less difficulty and more chance of the attacking returns that he was unlucky not to get in Gameweek 1. So it's the Newcastle winger who gets the nod from us here over Soucek.
Verdict: Allan Saint-Maximin
