FPL Gameweek 11 – head-to-head comparisons: Alex McCarthy vs Edouard Mendy
Two keepers come under the spotlight here as we focus on Southampton's Alex McCarthy (£4.6m) and Chelsea's Edouard Mendy (£5.2m). McCarthy has four Premier League clean sheets to his name so far this season, but Mendy has five despite playing two games less than McCarthy, a testament as to start he has made in a Chelsea shirt since signing from French side Rennes.
Southampton travel to Brighton and Chelsea host Leeds in Gameweek 11. On paper, this looks like a straightforward decision in Mendy's favour. Leeds have failed to score in just two of their Premier League games so far this season, but Brighton have only gone one league match without scoring. Yes McCarthy is cheaper, but Mendy is in excellent form and Chelsea having kept four clean sheets in their last five matches, must be seen as more likely to shut Leeds out, than Southampton are to keep Brighton from scoring.
