FPL Gameweek 1 – head-to-head comparisons: Tomas Soucek vs Harvey Barnes
Two midfielders with an eye for goal fall under the spotlight here. West Ham's Tomas Soucek (5.0m) has proven an inspired January signing for the Hammers and we assess his chances of outscoring Leicester's Harvey Barnes (£7.0m) in Gameweek One, as FPL managers look at what chance Barnes have of improving on last season's tally of 133 FPL points.
Soucek has been deployed as a deep central midfielder, but with license to make late runs into the box and most notably as an attacking outlet from set pieces, with his height seeing him compared to that of Marouane Fellaini, who did a similar job under David Moyes' management. Soucek scored three goals in 13 league appearances last season, whilst Barnes managed six goals and ten assists in 36 appearances. This suggests that Soucek represents incredible value and with a home game against Newcastle in Gameweek One, we'd give him the edge in this head-to-head, with the £2.0m difference in price left over to spend elsewhere in your squad.
Verdict: Tomas Soucek
