Two goalkeepers that will come into consideration for FPL owners will be Brighton’s Mathew Ryan (£4.5m) and Southampton’s Alex McCarthy (£4.5m). The duo are both solid options as second-choice goalkeepers for your bench and if you are feeling particularly brave and want to strengthen elsewhere, reasonable options at the budget range.
The clear preference over the course of the season is for Matt Ryan and he outscored McCarthy 135-104 in total points. Ralph Hasenhuttl’s team proved to be highly entertaining to watch but they do ship goals. That said, they may offer the better option in Gameweek 1 as they play away to Crystal Palace while Ryan’s Brighton face Chelsea. McCarthy gets the nod to kick off the season.
