It is likely that Danny Ings (£7.1m) would be in the England squad at Euro 2020 had the tournament not been postponed. The Southampton hitman was enjoying a fine season and plenty believed his goalscoring efforts would be enough to seal a spot as one of England’s forwards. Those dreams may now be in tatters unless he can continue his prowess in front of goal at the end of this season and into next. He has 15 goals to his name so far this season but only one of those came in his last seven matches.

Roberto Firmino (£9.5m) has scored seven goals less than Ings so far this season but his contributions in terms of assists mean he has only scored 10 fewer FPL points than the Southampton man. He has proved eight assists to Ings’ one while has also spent 400 minutes more on the pitch. That in itself can also be viewed as a negative for the Brazilian with his points per minute return coming out at less than Ings. The Liverpool man is without a goal in his last six games and with a local derby against Everton a potentially tricky fixture, Ings is the value pick at £2.4m cheaper while also having the more appealing fixture as Southampton head to bottom-placed Norwich.

Verdict: Danny Ings
