There were not too many of the mid-priced midfielders that tallied in Gameweek 1 but Burnley’s Johann Berg Gudmundsson (£6.0m) and Brighton’s Pascal Gross (£6.5m) were two that did. FPL owners will have been sceptical about the pair but ownership levels will likely rise on the duo ahead of Gameweek 2 after Gudmundsson’s goal and bonus point, and Gross’ assist. Brighton have spent plenty of money again this summer and there was some speculation that Gross’ place could come under threat, but that performance should see him remain in the team. Gudmundsson may be the safer play moving forward but Gross’ next two matches are at home to West Ham and Southampton which give him the edge.

Verdict: Pascal Gross
