Kai Havertz (£8.2m) got a late assist in Chelsea’s 1-3 defeat to Man City in Gameweek 17 but continues to frustrate FPL managers with his intermittent performances as part of a larger issue at the Blues. James Maddison (£7.1m) has also struggled for game time with a series of injuries but he was excellent in Leicester’s win at Newcastle last time out, scoring 10 FPL points.
Both sides have had a small break in preparation for this DGW19 but, fitness-allowing, there is only one winner here. Maddison is a whole £1.1m cheaper at the time of writing and likely to start both matches at home against Southampton and Chelsea. In recent games Havertz has had to make do with a substitute appearance in Frank Lampard’s ever-changing starting 11 and whilst he could bag the odd assist there is more potential in Maddison for goals and stand-out performances.
Verdict: James Maddison
