It’s a bit of a conundrum when it comes to Leroy Same (€9.5m). At €9.5m his price tag puts him firmly in the premium midfielder category, yet the winger has hardly been a regular for his domestic club Bayern Munich this season. When it comes to the international stage, Sane has started each of Germany’s last three qualifiers, bagging two assists in the process, and also began their European Qualifier campaign as first choice until rupturing his cruciate ligament. He registered three goals and an assist in those opening three matches. As such, on the international front it all looks positive but the price tag looks difficult to justify, particularly given the difficulty of their opening match against France.

For Phil Foden (€8.0m) it’s been a season of continuous highs. Having emerged as one of the world premier young talents, Foden has nailed a starting spot over the course of the season at Manchester City, scoring 16 goals in 49 appearances. He also appears to have forced his way into England’s first choice XI with three starts in their last four matches, during which time he’s scored twice and registered an assist. A U17’s World Cup winner from 2017, Foden proved he thrives in the big stage by scoring twice in that final as he was also awarded the FIFA U17’s World Cup Golden Ball. At €8.0m and an opening match against Croatia, Foden has the better price tag and fixture over Sane.

Verdict: Phil Foden
