With a fairly hefty price tag of €9.5m, Gareth Bale (€9.5m) has the potential for big point hauls right from the off in Wales’ first match against Switzerland. Back in 2016, Bale scored in all three-group games as Wales made a surprise run to the semi-finals. Having spent a season on loan at his previous club Tottenham, Bale looks to be coming into form at exactly the right time. After being in and out of the team early in the season, Bale started five of Tottenham’s last six league matches, registering six goals and an assist over that time period. In fact, the 11 goals and three assists recorded in the Premier League this season came in just 913 minutes of Premier League action. That’s a goal involvement approximately every 65 minutes, by far the best in the league.

Coming in at €1.0m cheaper than Bale, France’s mercurial talent Paul Pogba (€8.5m) will begin his campaign against Germany on matchday 1. It’s a tough opening match-up to anticipate attacking returns from, particularly given Pogba hasn’t scored in a French shirt since the 2018 FIFA World Cup final. He also plays in a deeper role than Bale and despite having better attacking talents around him, doesn’t find himself in as many goal-scoring positions as the Welshman. With both still only selected by 5% of EURO 2020 fantasy manager, both are potential differentials, however only one will likely yield attacking returns.

Verdict: Gareth Bale
