Chas Barstow’s reward for winning on his PDC World Championship debut is a meeting with three-time world champion Michael van Gerwen, who is determined to reclaim the title he last won in 2019. It has been a difficult year for the Dutchman as it took him until September to win his first tournament of 2021 – a barren stretch which has been unheard of since he shot to prominence in 2012. Despite that win at the Nordic Darts Masters, it’s fair to say MVG doesn’t hold the fear factor he once did although it always feels like another period of dominance is just around the corner if his game clicks into gear. Barstow will relish this challenge and could nick a set if some early nerves kick in for the world number three, but the Green Machine should get the job done.
