Ryan Searle can count himself somewhat lucky to have come through his first-round match as Dimitri Van den Bergh missed four match darts in a sudden-death leg, but the Devon thrower held his nerve admirably to progress to the second round of the World Grand Prix for the first time in his career. Luke Humphries, meanwhile, was a slightly more comfortable winner on his tournament debut when he saw off Dirk van Duijvenbode in straight sets but he profited from some wayward doubling from his Dutch opponent. Searle and Humphries last met in the UK Open in March with the latter coming through 10-7 on his way to the final, and this one could be another close contest between two players who are very close together in the world rankings. Going by the statistics in their respective first-round encounters though, Searle may be worth looking at to edge this one but it really could go either way.
