THE PREDICTION

The semi-final in the top half of the draw looked set to feature Michael van Gerwen and Gary Anderson but Simon Whitlock and Dirk van Duijvenbode had other ideas and they certainly are deserving of their place in the last four - with Whitlock having claimed a straight sets victory over MVG, while Van Duijvenbode defeated Anderson 3-1. The performance from Whitlock against the defending champion was mightily impressive as the Aussie averaged over 100 and restricted his opponent to just two legs. Van Duijvenbode may not quite have hit those heights, but his display against Anderson was excellent and belied the fact that it was his first ever major quarter-final appearance. It’s not easy to discount the Dutchman on the basis of how he played against Anderson but the quality and confidence shown by Whitlock this week suggests that the 2017 World Grand Prix runner-up will come out on top in this encounter and end Van Duijvenbode’s dream run.
