THE PREDICTION
There was plenty to admire about Michael van Gerwen’s performance against Krzysztof Ratajski in round one as the Dutchman was in imperious form for large spells of the contest. That display might put fear into some opponents, but Devon Petersen is unlikely to be daunted by the challenge ahead of him as the South African star is brimming with confidence right now after recently winning his first tour title and he goes into this contest with 14 wins from his last 16 matches. Petersen also won the last two meetings between these two players – the most recent of which was a 6-0 trouncing last month – so he will relish going toe-to-toe with Mighty Mike for a place in the last eight of a major ranking event. A third win in a row is not out of reach for Petersen as he has the scoring power to put pressure on Van Gerwen throughout, but MVG is not a five-time champion here by accident and he will be determined to show he is still the main man. In a match which looks capable of going the distance the odds on over 4.5 sets are appealing.
