World Matchplay champion Dimitri Van den Bergh produced a very accomplished all-round performance to defeat the fourth seed Michael Smith 2-0 in his opening round game. The Belgian star looked comfortable throughout and he certainly put down a statement of intent with the impressive display. In that type of form he should have no trouble ousting Dirk van Duijvenbode who defeated an out-of-sorts Mensur Suljovic in round one.
