THE LOWDOWN

KRZYSZTOF RATAJSKI

  • Krzysztof Ratajski has proven his calibre time and again on the PDC Tour over the last couple of years, resulting in him claiming an impressive total of seven ranking titles since the start of 2018.
  • The Polish Eagle made his World Matchplay debut last year when he lost to the eventual champion Rob Cross in round two having earlier defeated Darren Webster.
  • His results in the major PDC TV tournaments have not really done him justice so far but it only seems like a matter of time before he has a run to the latter stages in a PDC major.

JERMAINE WATTIMENA

  • Jermaine Wattimena is appearing at the World Matchplay for the third year in succession and he’ll be looking for better fortunes after losing in round one on both of those previous occasions.
  • Those first round defeats could hardly have been more different as on his debut in 2018 he lost in extra legs against James Wade, whereas last year he was hammered 10-1 by Mensur Suljovic.
  • Wattimena’s form on the tour in 2020 has not matched up to his performances last year and in total he has played 21 ranking tournaments since he last reached a quarter-final.

THE PREDICTION

Krzysztof Ratajski certainly has to be considered as a contender to reach the latter stages of this tournament such is the level of performance he consistently shows on the tour. Although he has proven his quality on the big stage in front of big crowds, there is the suggestion that he will thrive even more in this event which is played behind closed doors for the first time. Jermaine Wattimena is not an easy opponent by any stretch of the imagination but Ratajski is a more consistent player and he’s won each of the last six meetings between the two players; the Polish Eagle is tipped to extend that winning sequence and earn his progression through to round two for the second year in a row.
