THE PLAYERS

WAYNE WARREN

  • Wayne Warren defeated former PDC World Championship finalist Andy Hamilton 4-1 in the last 16 to move into the quarter-finals at the BDO World Championship for the second time in his career. On his previous foray into the last eight in 2018, he lost 5-4 in a thriller against Mark McGeeney
  • Warren’s impressive finishing against Hamilton saw him take out four ton-plus checkouts, and in the final three sets of the match he hit nine out of 12 attempts at the doubles.
  • The consistency shown by Warren in his first two matches have seen him post almost identical averages, with his 92.69 against Hamilton preceded by 92.75 against Thompson in round one.

CHRIS LANDMAN

  • Chris Landman was forced to go into extra legs for the second match in a row in his epic come-from-behind win against Ben Hazel in the last 16. This is the Dutchman’s first ever appearance in the quarter-finals at the BDO World Championship.
  • Landman looked to be on his way out of the tournament when he trailed 3-1 against Hazel but a winning run of seven legs in a row brought him right back in contention and he was the player who held it together in a nervy final set.
  • His match average of 87.18 against Hazel was slightly up on his performance against Parletti, but overall his tournament average of 85.91 is almost seven points lower than Wayne Warren’s.

THE PREDICTION

This is a huge game for two players who have never been into the semi-finals of a major televised tournament. In Warren’s favour he does have a previous quarter-final appearance at the World Championship and the Welshman is a steadier performer on the oche than his erratic Dutch opponent. Landman will have his moments in this game where he strings together winning legs with ease, but ultimately over a match of this distance Warren is likely to be too consistent.
