WAYNE WARREN
- Wayne Warren is through to the final at the BDO World Championship for the first time in his career and a win would see the 57-year-old become the oldest ever world champion in either darting code.
- Warren recovered from a poor start to win 6-3 in his semi-final against 2015 champion Scott Mitchell. Having lost six of the first seven legs of the match to trail 2-0 in sets, the Welshman found his range and impressively turned the match around, helped by an excellent checkout percentage of 60%.
- His 180 scoring has been a big feature of his game in the last two rounds, having notched a total of 28 in defeating Landman and Mitchell. Warren comes into the final having scored 16 more 180s than Williams at this tournament.
JIM WILLIAMS
- Jim Williams set up a meeting in the final against his fellow countryman Warren by defeating Belgium’s Mario Vandenbogaerde 6-4 in the semi-finals, and he is in the final for the first time after losing out to Glen Durrant in the semi-finals 12 months ago.
- His match average of 90.98 against Vandenbogaerde is his second highest of the tournament so far, Wayne Warren has averaged higher than that in each one of his four matches in reaching the final.
- Williams has experience of winning a major BDO televised tournament when he claimed the 2019 World Trophy title, and he also has a good winning record against Warren which includes a 6-1 victory when they met in the final of the England Open last June.
THE PREDICTION
There is guaranteed to be a first Welsh world darts champion since 2008 when Wayne Warren and Jim Williams do battle for the 2020 BDO World Championship title. This is the first time that either of them have played in this showpiece finale and it is difficult to say for sure who will settle first. Warren has played to a more consistent level throughout the tournament than his fellow countryman, as is shown in is his tournament average being three points higher and what also can’t be ignored is the awesome 180 scoring power from Warren in the last two rounds. Williams starts as the favourite, but a win for Warren would certainly be no shock. Williams will need to start well if he is to overcome the 57-year-old and claim the title.
