• Corrine Hammond’s 2-0 victory against Vicky Pruim in round one was much tougher than the score suggests with Pruim having missed six darts to win the opening set and four more which would have seen her lead 2-1 in the second set.
• This is Hammond’s second appearance in the quarter-finals at the BDO World Championships, with the previous occasion being in 2017 when she went on to reach the final.
• Her only prior defeats at the World Championship have been against players who have at least reached the final previously: Deta Hedman, Lisa Ashton and Fallon Sherrock (twice).

LAURA TURNER

• Laura Turner progressed through to the World Championship quarter-finals for the first time in her career by defeating former finalist Deta Hedman in straight sets.
• Turner took advantage of a below-par performance from Hedman who recorded her lowest average at a World Championship since 2011.
• The English player has had success against Hammond in their previous meetings in ranking tournaments with wins in each of their last three encounters, all in 2019.

THE PREDICTION

Two unseeded players are meeting in this game for a place in the semi-finals at the 2020 World Championship. Hammond has been to this stage of the tournament before so certainly has the edge in terms of experience but Turner has had the better of their previous meetings so this match is very intriguing. Hammond’s extra big-stage experience might just be the deciding factor, though the main prediction is for over 2.5 sets in the match.
