- Chris Landman defeated number four seed Dave Parletti in a last-set decider to reach the last 16 at the BDO World Championship for the first time.
- Landman had earlier missed match darts in the third and fourth sets against Parletti and then survived a missed opportunity from his opponent in the final set in a dramatic round one encounter.
- The Dutchman hit six 180s and landed a maximum finish of 170 in round one, but his final match average was only 84.17.
BEN HAZEL
- Ben Hazel won in a last-set decider for the second match in a row as he came from two sets down to defeat Gary Robson 3-2 in round one.
- Hazel’s average of 80.30 against Robson was six points lower than the one he posted in his prelim round win against Joe Chaney.
- This is by far the biggest match of Hazel’s darting career as he aims to reach the quarter-finals on his debut at the BDO World Championship.
THE PREDICTION
Both of these players are through to the last 16 at the BDO World Championship for the first time so this is a huge opportunity to further break new ground. Landman is the more experienced of the pair and has also shown more evidence that he is capable of playing at a higher standard than Hazel. There is a good chance that Landman can take control of this game early on, and if he does, he is capable of covering a handicap of -1.5.
