THE PREDICTION

According to the tournament seedings we should have been seeing the number four seed Michael Smith taking on Devon Petersen in the third round but World Championship debutant Jason Lowe had other ideas and he ousted the former finalist from the tournament in round two to set up a meeting with the South African star. A tie against Lowe certainly offers an easier route to the last 16 for Petersen on paper but he can’t afford to take his unseeded opponent lightly at all or he might fall by the wayside like Smith did. A year ago, Petersen might not have had the belief or consistency to take advantage of this situation but he is a much better all-round player these days and he is tipped to successfully make it through to the fourth round.
