THE PREDICTION
Daryl Gurney and Chris Dobey have both had a disappointing season on the circuit compared to their recent standards but a good run here at Alexandra Palace would make up for that. Coincidentally the pair each won 3-2 in their opening match of the tournament but the way their respective games played out was very different indeed as Gurney was 2-0 up in his tie against William O’Connor while Dobey fought back from 2-0 down against Jeff Smith. There were enough signs from them both in those aforementioned games to suggest that we should see a good competitive tussle here played to a good standard. It would be considered a surprise if either player stormed away to a comprehensive victory so a bet on the match to last over 5.5 sets is worth considering. The total 180s market is also an interesting option, the pair scored a combined total of 11 in the previous round so the target total of 12.5 could well be achieved in a match which is played over a longer format.
