A second round meeting with Michael Smith awaits the winner of this opening round game between two players who are making their first appearance at a World Championship. Jason Lowe is the obvious favourite to win this contest as he at least has experience of playing on the big stage previously, while he has also competed on the main PDC circuit this season. Dmitriy Gorbunov is very much untested at this level and there is not enough in the history of his playing career to suggest that he will spring a surprise and defeat Lowe. There is not much value in backing the Englishman just to win, a correct score of 3-0 could be the best option.
