THE PREDICTION

Dirk van Duijvenbode is a much better player nowadays than he was when he lost 3-0 against Raymond van Barnveld in round one on his PDC World Championship debut five years ago. The Dutchman arrives at Ally Pally this year with the experience of having reached his first major final at the World Grand Prix only a couple of months ago, while he also reached the quarter-finals at the European Championship and Players Championship Finals since then. A first round tie against the current PDC World Youth Champion Bradley Brooks is no easy passage through to round two for Van Duijvenbode though and he will have to be sharp from the start against an opponent who will be determined to make a good impression on his first appearance at the premier tournament in world darts. There has been enough quality and confidence in Van Duijvenbode’s game over the last few months to suggest that he will rise to the challenge and we should expect to see him progress through to round two.
