THE PLAYERS

PETER WRIGHT

  • 2017 UK Open winner Peter Wright arrives in Dublin looking to go one step further than last year when he reached the final and lost 5-2 to Michael van Gerwen.
  • Wright was massively disappointed to lose in the quarter-finals at the World Matchplay in July having gone into the tournament in red-hot form with three consecutive titles in the build-up to the tournament.
  • Snakebite has enjoyed fairly comfortable wins against Max Hopp in their three previous encounters in TV tournaments – the most recent of these was a 6-2 victory at the Players Championship Finals in late 2018.

MAX HOPP

  • German number one Max Hopp returns to Dublin having lost 2-0 to former finalist Dave Chisnall on his World Grand Prix debut in 2018 – managing to win only two legs during the contest.
  • Hopp lost 12-10 to the eventual runner-up Michael Smith in the second round at the World Matchplay in July having early defeated Dave Chisnall 11-9 in round one.
  • His best showing in a major TV tournament was at the European Championship last Autumn when he narrowly missed out on a place in final following an 11-10 defeat against eventual champion James Wade.

THE PREDICTION

Peter Wright's form and confidence at the World Grand Prix format has improved over the last two years and a run to the final last year will give him belief he can go deep again. Max Hopp has some experience from his debut in 2018 but he lost in round one on that occasion and it appears the same fate might await him in 2019 with Snakebite's extra experience at this format being key.
