- Exciting young Dutch star Jeffrey de Zwaan is making his second appearance at the World Grand Prix having lost in round two to Gary Anderson in 2018 after defeating Kim Huybrechts in round one.
- De Zwaan has struggled for a good run on the TV stage since he reached the semi-finals at the 2018 World Matchplay, and has not reached the last 16 in a PDC major ranking tournament since the 2018 World Grand Prix.
- Still only 23, De Zwaan also competes on the PDC Development Tour and he has won titles on both the main PDC Tour and the Development Tour during 2019.
STEVE BEATON
- The ever-popular Steve Beaton’s longevity is highlighted by the fact he made his World Grand Prix debut all the way back in 2001 when he lost to the legendary John Lowe in round two.
- 'The Adonis' has made it through to the second round in each of the last two years at the Grand Prix having beaten Rob Cross in the first round both times.
- Beaton’s best recent run in a TV tournament was in March at the UK Open when he reached the quarter-finals before losing to Michael Smith.
THE PREDICTION
This is a real battle between youth and experience, with De Zwaan not even born when Beaton won the BDO World title in 1996. Although he hasn’t gone far in a TV tournament since the 2018 World Matchplay, the young Dutchman likes the big stage and he played well here last year, averaging over 97 in the first round. If he repeats that level of performance, he should make it through to round two.
