THE PLAYERS

GLEN DURRANT

  • Glen Durrant defeated Dutchman Jermaine Wattimena 3-2 to reach his second consecutive PDC major ranking tournament semi-final following his run to the last four at the World Matchplay in July.
  • Duzza has had to dig deep to reach this stage of the tournament having won in a last-set decider in all of his matches so far with victories against Ratajski and Cross preceding his triumph against Wattimena in the quarter-finals.
  • His form on the starting and finishing doubles have been of a very consistent standard throughout the event so far which is shown in his success rate of 47% on both of those.

DAVE CHISNALL

  • Dave Chisnall won 3-1 in an excellent encounter against UK Open champion Nathan Aspinall on Thursday evening to reach the semi-finals at the World Grand Prix for the third time in his career.
  • Such has been Chizzy’s impressive form this season, it’s his 10th semi-final of 2019 but only his first major ranking semi-final since 2016 when he reached the final at the 2016 Players Championship Finals.
  • Chisnall and Durrant have met twice previously with Chizzy coming out on top in a last-leg decider in their most recent encounter which was in the final of a tour event earlier this year. Duzza won 10-8 in their other meeting at the 2017 Grand Slam of Darts.

THE PREDICTION

The previous two meetings between Chisnall and Durrant have been very close encounters and this should be no different. With both players full of confidence, the standard should be excellent and whoever makes it through will be made to work hard for it. Chizzy has certainly looked back to his best with the scoring phase of his game looking particularly strong. Although Durrant has been starting and finishing well, his own scoring has not hit its usual heights with only 3 180s so far in the tournament. In a match capable of going the distance, Chizzy is tipped to just edge out Duzza.
