THE PLAYERS

RITCHIE EDHOUSE

  • Ritchie Edhouse is making his World Championship debut at this tournament having qualified through the PDC ProTour Order of Merit where he was ranked in 52nd place.
  • Edhouse’s only previous experiences of major ranking tournaments in the PDC have been at the UK Open where he lost his first match in the tournament in both 2016 and 2017.
  • He hasn’t progressed further than the last 16 in a ranking tournament on the main tour this season but did taste success with a tournament win on the PDC Challenge Tour back in January.

BORIS KOLTSOV

  • Russia’s Boris Koltsov will be participating in his fourth PDC World Championship after earning qualification through the EuroAsian Darts Corporation Qualifier.
  • Koltsov has yet to record an average of above 80 in a World Championship match, and his only previous win at the World Championship came in a prelim match against Haruki Muramatsu on his tournament debut. He has lost each of his last three matches at Alexandra Palace, which includes a 3-0 defeat against Chris Dobey in round one last year.
  • The Russian World Cup of Darts representative has participated in quite a lot of the main tour Players Championship tournaments in 2019 without making any real impact. On the second-tier PDC Challenge Tour this season he has won a tournament though whilst also reaching the final of another.

THE PREDICTION

Both players will see this is a decent chance to earn a good payday with a guaranteed £15,000 for the winner being their biggest single tournament prize money haul to date. They have had fairly similar seasons with each claiming a tournament win on the PDC Challenge Tour and the signs seem to point towards a close contest. Looking at their averages, Edhouse has been playing to a higher standard over the past couple of months and he is tipped to progress.
