PETER WRIGHT
- Former PDC World Championship finalist Peter Wright has been on the receiving end of a shock result in each of the last two years at Alexandra Palace.
- Last year, he lost to Toni Alcinas in what was his first opening match defeat at a World Championship since the 2011-12 tournament. Two years ago, he lost in round two to an outstanding performance from Jamie Lewis who averaged 107 and went on to reach the semi-finals.
- Snakebite recovered from a poor start to 2019, when he had a disappointing Premier League campaign, to help Scotland win the World Cup of Darts. Also on the TV stage he won the German Darts Masters and reached the finals at the Champions League of Darts and Grand Slam of Darts.
NOEL MALICDEM
- Noel Malicdem cruised to a 3-0 victory against Rowby-John Rodriguez to make it through to round two for the second consecutive year at the PDC World Championship.
- Malicdem’s finishing against Rodriguez was the most impressive part of his game as he ended the match with a checkout percentage of 53% and took out finishes of 107 and 104 during the encounter.
- He went down to a 3-1 defeat against Australia’s Kyle Anderson at this stage of the 2018-19 World Championship so a win here would represent a huge landmark for Malicdem.
THE PREDICTION
Peter Wright faces a potentially difficult assignment as he aims to avoid another upset at the World Championship. Malicdem has proven to be a tough competitor and if Wright is not fully at the races, he could be in trouble. Snakebite has the ability to ensure a safe passage but Malicdem should at least be capable of taking a set off the former World Championship finalist and could even force a decider.
