KIM HUYBRECHTS
- Kim Huybrechts has thrown this section of the draw wide open with his shock 3-0 victory against the out-of-sorts number two seed Rob Cross in the previous round. It was a victory that saw the Belgian drop only two legs against the former world champion.
- His average of 89.44 against Cross was pretty similar to the one he posted in his opening round win over Geert Nentjes. The main strength for Huybrechts in his triumph over Cross was his 52.94% success on the doubles.
- A win for Huybrechts in this match would see him move into the last 16 in a major ranking tournament for the first time since July 2018 at the World Matchplay and it would be the first time he has won three matches at the World Championship since his debut at the 2011-12 tournament.
DANNY NOPPERT
- Dutchman Danny Noppert had to come from behind to see off the challenge of World Championship debutant Callan Rydz in his opening game of the tournament. Rydz had led 2-1 only for Noppert to win six of the next seven legs to earn his progression into the last 32.
- Noppie averaged 92.85 and had a checkout percentage of 43% in overcoming Rydz. It was the first time that the Dutchman has been involved in a last-set decider at a World Championship.
- All three of the previous meetings between Noppert and Huybrechts have come in 2019, with Noppert winning each of the last two. This is their first encounter in a stage tournament though.
THE PREDICTION
Kim Huybrechts has had a poor couple of seasons on the tour so the win against Rob Cross will have been a massive confidence boost for the Belgian player. The performance from Cross was not good though and Huybrechts will have to raise his own game is he is to keep progressing. Danny Noppert has shown flashes of his talent during his short time in the PDC and a run deep into this tournament is certainly not beyond him. Of the pair, it is Noppert’s all-round game that is stronger at the moment and he is tipped to make it through to the last 16.
