JUSTIN PIPE
- Justin Pipe is making his ninth appearance at the PDC World Championship and is returning for the first time in two years having failed to qualify last year for the first time since making his debut.
- His best run at a World Championship came at the 2011-12 tournament when he reached the last 16. Since then, his record is not good and he has lost five of his last six matches at Alexandra Palace.
- Appearances in TV tournaments have become rare for Pipe over the last few years as his ranking has dropped. He showed some signs of a revival this year when he reached his first ranking final in over four years at a Players Championship tournament in July.
BENJAMIN PRATNEMER
- Slovenia’s Benjamin Pratnemer is appearing at the PDC World Championship for the first time having earned his spot by winning the East Europe Qualifier in September.
- He was pretty much untroubled in the final stages of the qualifier, winning in the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final whilst dropping only three legs.
- Pratnemer will not be a familiar face having never featured in any PDC ranking tournaments previously. He did win a couple of minor WDF tournaments in November, both coming in the same weekend in Hungary.
THE PREDICTION
Justin Pipe may be quietly pleased with his first round draw as he makes his first appearance here for a couple of years. Benjamin Pratnemer earned his place here through a fairly weak looking qualifying tournament and is very much an unknown quantity. Pipe is not the consistent player he once was, but he should be too strong for the Slovenian qualifier and is predicted to win in four sets.
