• Daryl Gurney started his 2019-20 PDC World Championship campaign by dropping only two legs in a comfortable straight sets victory against Justin Pipe.
• Gurney had an impressive 50% success rate on the doubles and finished the match with an average of 96.02 to move through to the last 32 for the fifth consecutive year at Alexandra Palace.
• He has suffered disappointing defeats in each of the last two years in this round at the PDC World Championship – with losses against John Henderson and Jamie Lewis on those two occasions.

GLEN DURRANT

• Three-time BDO world champion Glen Durrant emphatically defeated Australia’s Damon Heta 3-0 in his debut match at the PDC World Championship to set up this clash against Gurney.
• Durrant’s clinical finishing proved to be far too good for Heta as he ended the encounter with a checkout percentage of 56% - which included a maximum 170 out.
• His victory against Heta extended his winning run in World Championship matches to 16 with his last defeat coming against Scott Waites at the 2016 BDO World Championship.

THE PREDICTION

Both of these players are genuine contenders to win any tournament they enter so this should be a match not to be missed. They performed to a similar standard in the previous round and it is likely there will not be much to separate them at the end of this encounter. Gurney has some bad memories of having crashed out at this stage of the tournament in each of the last two years and his record at this tournament is poorer than it is in most of the other majors. Of course, that could all change, but perhaps not on this occasion with Durrant predicted to come out on top in a match that should also see more than 5.5 sets.
