THE PLAYERS

BRENDAN DOLAN

  • Brendan Dolan is making his 12th consecutive appearance at the PDC World Championship having never failed to qualify since he made his debut at the 2008-09 tournament.
  • The Northern Irishman had never won back-to-back matches at a World Championship tournament until last year when he won four matches on his way to reaching the quarter-finals where he was defeated by current UK Open champion Nathan Aspinall.
  • Over the last few years his ranking has been steadily falling due to poor form but in August he won his first ranking title for five years and then claimed another title only two months later.

NITIN KUMAR

  • Nitin Kumar won the PDC Indian qualifying tournament for the second successive year to earn a return to Alexandra Palace after making his debut last year.
  • He lost 3-0 to Dutchman Jeffrey de Zwaan in the opening round last year, winning only three legs and finishing the match with a lowly average of 77.75.
  • Kumar did attend Q School at the start of 2019 in a bid to win his tour card but he bowed out early in all four days of qualifying having only once averaged above 80 in his six matches played.

THE PREDICTION

Brendan Dolan had an excellent World Championship last year with his best ever showing at the tournament in reaching the quarter-finals and having won two ranking tournaments within the last four months, he will surely be coming to Ally Pally in good spirits. Dolan will be quietly pleased with his opening round draw – if maybe not his potential second round game, as it would be against Gary Anderson – and the Northern Irishman is predicted to ease to a 3-0 win against Kumar.
