In the opening few matches of the 2024/25 Women’s Big Bash League down under, these have had very different starts. The Sydney Sixers defeated the Melbourne Renegades, whilst the Adelaide Strikers were beaten by Brisbane Heat.

SYDNEY SIXERS PREVIEW: ELLYSE’S SIXERS
In their opening game of this season, the Sydney Sixers defeated Melbourne Renegades by three wickets at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide. Ellyse Perry took 2-25 with the ball to finish off the Renegades innings before the legendary cricketer then went and hit 81 runs from just 38 balls as they chased it down in 19 overs.
ADELAIDE STRIKERS PREVIEW: WASTED HOME ADVANTAGE
The Adelaide Strikers began the 2024/25 campaign very differently with a defeat on home turf at the Adelaide Oval in South Australia. They set a target of 134 with Tahlia McGrafth top scoring with an unbeaten half-century from 41 balls but Brisbane Heat chased that down in just 18 overs despite Megan Schutt taking 2-27 from her four overs.
SYDNEY SIXERS BETTING ANALYSIS
The Sydney Sixers are, as mentioned, not necessarily dominated by or reliant on the excellent Perry but it would be daft to suggest she is not of paramount importance. Perry to contribute with bat and/or ball is always a safe bet so backing her to be Player of the Match is always worthwhile, too.
Elsewhere in the side, the Sixers’ best bet with the ball, aside from Perry and in fact instead of Perry, will often be England international Sophie Ecclestone. She took 2-35 last week and Ecclestone to regularly take two or more wickets is a good bet and that is something that should be backed here.
ADELAIDE STRIKERS BETTING ANALYSIS
Tahlia McGrath is the star name and captain of the Adelaide Strikers and she, as well as opener Katie Mack, were the only players who could find any rhythm as they were restricted well by Brisbane Heat. It seems a bit too safe but is still most sensible to back McGrath to be Adelaide’s best batter here.
Darcie Brown is a threat with the ball for the Strikers, as is Orla Prendergast and Amanda-Jade Wellington but on slow-ish pitches, which the North Sydney Oval is also expected to be, the change up bowling of Schutt remains the most potent threat for the Strikers and she is the best bet to be their best bowler.
SYDNEY SIXERS VS ADELAIDE STRIKERS EXPERT PREDICTION
It is perhaps a bit reductionist to just look at names on a teamsheet and think one way or the other but that is the case for this one with Sydney Sixers’ stars including both Ecclestone and Perry – and it was even shown to be the case in the respective opening matches of these two sides. Now back in Sydney, too, backing the Sixers to make it back-to-back wins to start their campaign seems sensible.
