THE TEAM NEWS
MANCHESTER ORIGINALS MEN
- Manchester Originals suffered the frustration of a second home match abandoned due to rain last Thursday vs Southern Brave, after reaching 98/3 from 71 balls with Colin Munroe on 41 not out before the heavens opened.
- That leaves the Originals very much still in the hunt for a top three spot, having not lost a game since the opening men’s Hundred fixture away at Oval Invincibles, although they have now suffered more ‘no results’ that other men’s team so far.
- The hosts sprung a huge surprise with their selection against the Brave by not picking England spin-bowler Matt Parkinson and it would be a shock once again if he wasn’t recalled into the starting line-up here.
LONDON SPIRIT MEN
- London Spirit sunk to a new low against Northern Superchargers last time out, a match that saw them thrashed by 63 runs at Lord’s after reaching just 92/9 from their 100 balls chasing 156 to in.
- Eoin Morgan’s side are now the only team from both the men and women’s Hundred who are yet to win a single match thus far, having lost four of their five games with one washout leaving them on just one point and with next to no chance of finishing inside the top three.
- Morgan and head coach Shane Warne have few options in terms of making changes to improve their batting line-up, although Middlesex youngster Joe Cracknell may be afforded an opportunity.
THE PREDICTION
Manchester Originals will be delighted to finally get some cricket in at Emirates Old Trafford after being unable to accrue results from either of their last two home games due to the bad weather. Prospects of play are far brighter in this one and the Originals should seize control of the contest early on. Against a visiting side bereft of confidence, a batting line-up totally out of form, an expensive bowling unit and motivation within the Spirit at an all-time low, any outcome other than a Manchester Originals victory here would be considered a surprise.
