THE TEAM NEWS

LONDON SPIRIT WOMEN

  • A poor batting display from London Spirit chasing 133 saw them only manage 117/7 vs Oval Invincibles in their opening match at Lord’s, resulting in a 15-run defeat for Heather Knight’s side.
  • Knight herself top scored with 40, but found herself with no support and the batting has been a slight concern for the Spirit with England star Tammy Beaumont having not been permitted to feature just yet after joining the camp late on.
  • Beaumont will desperately be hoping to feature here, whilst London Spirit will also be hoping for a more significant contribution from Deepti Sharma with the bat.

TRENT ROCKETS WOMEN

  • Two defeats from two already see Trent Rockets under massively pressure going forward in the competition and they can ill afford a third successive loss here.
  • Overseas player Sammy-Jo Johnson put in an excellent display with the ball last time out vs Northern Superchargers, taking four wickets for the loss of just 15-runs, however it didn’t prove to be enough as the Superchargers went on to accrue a winning total of 149, which the Rockets fell 27 runs short of.
  • New Zealand wicketkeeper batter Rachel Priest has failed to really make her mark on the Hundred as of yet and is under pressure to deliver a score in this match, as Trent Rockets desperately need a platform in which captain Nat Sciver can build upon when she comes out to bat at number three.

THE PREDICTION

A special occasion for both these sides playing at Lord’s, however London Spirit and Trent Rockets each find themselves under pressure and in-need of a crucial two points. The batting line-ups have so far not fired over the course of tournament, although London Spirit will be confident that can change against a team clearly short on confidence after two damaging defeats. The Rockets already look almost too reliant on all-rounder Sciver, especially with the willow and that may again cost them here. With home advantage in their favour and the superior power at the top of the order to take advantage of an under-fire Trent Rockets bowling unit, London Spirit have the ingredients to edge what is likely to be a close contest.
