THE PREDICTION
A rematch of their 2021 T20 Blast semi-final sees Hampshire Hawks and Somerset lock horns once again. James Vince’s Hawks return to Edgbaston less than two weeks after their demolition of North Group winners Birmingham Bears, whom they defeated by a whopping 104 runs in the quarter-finals. Somerset finished above the Hawks in the South group and are coming off the back of the biggest victory in T20 Blast history, thrashing Derbyshire Falcons by 191 runs after scoring 265/5 batting first. The two counties boast a win over each other across the competition so far, Somerset beating Hampshire by six wickets at the Ageas Bowl, whilst Vince’s men triumphed by 14 runs at Taunton.
As is normally the case with Hampshire Hawks in the T20 Blast this year, much depends on their opening partnership of James Vince or Ben McDermott. Should either of the two come off with the bat, then they stand an excellent chance in this semi-final, when taking into account the quality of their bowling unit. Somerset boast an extremely powerful batting line-up with significant depth, but on the flip-side their bowling attack isn’t as well rounded as their opponents. They say batters win games, but bowlers win titles and in a fixture of such importance, the wily know-how of Hampshire Hawks under Vince’s outstanding leadership may well come up trumps.
