THE LOWDOWN

Northamptonshire Steelbacks’ incredible nine-wicket victory over Durham in midweek has given them an immediate boost. Northants were winless until that stage but the first match of the season for overseas all-rounder Mohammad Nabi has sparked a huge turnaround as he took 2-24 opening the bowling and taking the key wickets of Bedingham and Stokes. They come up against a stuttering Lancashire Lightning that will be extremely frustrated to have tied their last match against a Notts Outlaws side that they had beaten after 10 overs but some wasteful Lancs batting and excellent death bowling restricted the Lightning to par. It means they have won just three matches so far this season with two defeats, a tie and an abandonment. Extremely inconsistent for a side with ideals of winning the competition.

THE PREDICTION

The visitors had to reshuffle their pack against Notts last weekend with both Jos Buttler and Liam Livingstone being unavailable due to England international duty. They went spin-heavy in that match on the large playing field of Old Trafford but that would be unlikely to be the case in this one and Richard Gleeson could come back in to face his former side. Despite that Northants win, Lancashire should remain the favourites.
