THE LOWDOWN

SOUTH AFRICA

Coach: Rob Walter

Captain: Temba Bavuma

  • Along with hosts India, South Africa have been the standout performers in the opening couple of weeks of this World Cup. The Proteas have hammered both Sri Lanka and Australia so far and come into this knowing another comfortable and heavy win could take them to the top of the league table after a third of matches in the league stage.
  • South Africa began their tournament by hitting a World Cup record score of 429-5 against Sri Lanka in Delhi, conceding over 300 but still winning by over 100 runs. Then they posted 311-9 on a tricky pitch in Lucknow before bowling Australia out for 177 in the second innings.

NETHERLANDS

Coach: Ryan Cook

Captain: Scott Edwards

  • The Netherlands qualified for this tournament ahead of the likes of the West Indies and Scotland and, despite two defeats from two, they have shown real grit and fight to be competitive against both Pakistan and New Zealand.
  • Their opening defeat to Pakistan in Hyderabad saw the Dutch pin their opposition back to 39-3 before eventually bowling Pakistan out for 284. Regular wickets fell throughout their chase to hamper any hope of victory. Then, once again in Hyderabad, New Zealand looked like they may post a mammoth score but some good bowling towards the back end of the innings restricted the Kiwis to 322-7 before, once again, losing regular wickets in the chase.

THE PREDICTION

In both matches of their matches at the 2023 ICC World Cup so far, the Netherlands have restricted faltering batting lineups to totals that they would have, on an excellent day, fancied themselves to at least be competitive. They have reached over 200 in both chases but never looked very likely. It would be some effort to bowl as well as they have in a third straight game but they will have the benefit of bowler friendly conditions in Dharamsala. However, the South Africans have looked outstanding in all departments so far in this tournament, scoring 740 runs and taking 20 wickets in two matches. Another heavy win for one of the leading contenders for the trophy is expected.

BETTING TIP: SOUTH AFRICA TO WIN
