January 10th sees the beginning of the inaugural SA20, Cricket South Africa’s latest attempt at a marquee T20 tournament. It is a franchise competition, with all six created teams sold to outside investors, each of which also currently own an IPL franchise.

When is the Betway SA20 taking place?
The Betway SA20 begins on January 10th and runs until the final on February 11th in Johannesburg
Which teams are taking part?
Six brand new franchise teams have been created and sold for the tournament, each of which represent a different area of South Africa. The teams and their respective home grounds are listed below.
Durban Super Giants – Kingsmead, Durban
Johannesburg Super Kings – The Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg
MI Cape Town – Newlands, Cape Town
Paarl Royals – Boland Park, Paarl
Pretoria Capitals – SuperSport Park, Centurion
Sunrisers Eastern Cape – St George’s Park, Gqeberha
Which players are taking part and who will they play for?
All the best South African international and domestic players will be taking part, as will a glittering assortment of overseas players from around the world, such as English T20i winners Jos Buttler, Liam Livingstone, Harry Brook and Sam Curran, West Indian star Jason Holder and the recently named Afghanistan T20i captain Rashid Khan. What is the format of the Betway SA20?
A total of 33 matches will be played across the tournament, beginning with all six teams playing each other home and away in a round robin group stage. The top four teams will advance to the semi-finals before the winning sides face-off on February 11th in the inaugural Betway SA20 final.
