The Pakistan Super League continues to prove itself as one of the marquee events on the domestic T20 calendar. The competition enters its eighth edition following a memorable previous seven tournaments, all of which have included finals that have kept us entertained throughout. Whether it be a victorious run chase, or a total being defended successfully, the PSL final always brings excitement. But what about the history of Pakistan Super League finals? Which franchise have come out on top? Which players have stolen the show on the biggest stage?
We've broken down all seven previous Pakistan Super League finals below, including the fixture, result and Player of the Match on each occasion. What you'll immediately note is that all six franchise boast at least one win to their name.
The first three seasons were dominated by Islamabad United, who won both the PSL 1 and PSL 3 final, completing successful run chases on both occasions. Of the seven finals, four were won by the side batting second, which the team batting first were victorious three times, each of those being by a big margin. Peshawar Zalmi thrashed Quetta Gladiators by 58 runs in the final of PSL 2, whilst the last two PSL finals saw Multan Sultans and Lahore Qalandars win by 47 and 42 runs respectively.
It's also interesting note that the 'Player of the Match' award in the first three finals were won by an overseas player. However, in what is perhaps a testament to the growth of the competition in terms of its domestic/local strength, the last four finals saw a player from Pakistan named 'Player of the Match'.
