COLOMBO KINGS
- · Colombo Kings earned their semi-final spot in style as they won seven of their eight group games and they won their final match against Dambulla Viiking on Friday in style as they chased down 203/3 with six wickets and seven balls to spare.
- · They were afforded the luxury of resting Andre Russell and Isuru Udana in that game and they still managed to pull off a sensational run chase but the two all-rounders will come back in for this semi-final clash with Galle.
- · Laurie Evans looks to be finding form at the right time with the bat as he has hit 108 and 53 in his last two innings but he took a nasty blow to midriff which forced him to retire hurt and he is considered a doubt of this game although he should play through the pain barrier.
GALLE GLADIATORS
- · Galle Gladiators scraped into the semi-finals after two wins in their final three group stage matches but they will have to overcome the best side in the tournament to reach the final here.
- · One of those wins came against Colombo Kings as they inflicted their only loss by eight wickets although there were signs of complacency creeping in for the Kings but it will nonetheless give the Gladiators some belief they can spring the upset here.
- · They possess the in-form batsmen in the tournament in opening Danushka Gunathilaka who ahs hit a staggering 462 runs in eight innings including four fifties and he has yet to score less than 30 in any of his innings as they will need more magic from him if they are to progress and overcome the Kings.
THE PREDICTION
Colombo Kings are heavy favourites to lift the inaugural LPL crown after some outstanding group stage performances where they only lost one game but Galle Gladiators are a dangerous opponent. They are the only team to have beaten them in the tournament so far and they do possess matchwinners within their ranks like Gunathilaka and pace man Mohammad Amir. Ultimately, the Kings have far more all-round quality and depth in their ranks and they simply have to be favoured but if any of the Gladiators key men fire, a surprise could be on the cards. It will take a lot to go their way however and the Kings are favoured to move into the final.
