THE LOWDOWN
GALLE GLADIATORS
- Galle failed to recover from their opening day defeat to Jaffna Stallions and went on to lose their second match against Colombo Kings in a rain-affected affair on Saturday.
- Hazratullah Zazai came into the side for the Colombo game after being left out against Jaffna on the opening day though his run-a-ball six did little to defend his selection, despite the frustrating and mitigating circumstances of the shortened match.
- A concession of 96 runs in five overs against Colombo and an inspired Andre Russell once again emphasised the lack of bowling depth for the Gladiators but given that game was a five-over shootout, they may well keep faith with the same eleven to give them a chance in normal circumstances.
KANDY TUSKERS
- One of the pre-tournament favourites have began the inaugural LPL with two defeats from two, however, the losses had mitigating circumstances and both have seen reasonable Tuskers performances.
- Tuskers conceded over 200 against the powerful batting line-up of Colombo, one which has taken both their opponents for high scores, but managed to keep Dambulla below that total in their second game.
- It was the wicket of Kamindu Mendis, just 6 balls before the eventual stoppage for rain, which meant that Kandy fell behind in the Duckworth-Lewis scoring system. Highlighting, once again, an unfortunate loss after a super-over defeat to Colombo in their first match and they will look to bounce back here.
THE PREDICTION
This is a match between two sides that have lost both of their matches so far but the future prospects are predicted to be very different. Galle will improve and they do possess some matchwinners in their team but their chances of winning the tournament remain very small. In contrast, while Kandy’s bowling may not be the best, they have simply had two knife-edge games go against them and they do possess plenty of quality in their ranks. The Tuskers will expect to finally get a win at the third time of asking.
