THE TEAM NEWS

BANGLADESH

  • Bangladesh were on the end of a big defeat as they struggled with both bat and ball against Pakistan and suffered a loss by an innings in that recent match but will hope to improve on that performance as they host Zimbabwe.
  • That poor effort has resulted in four omissions to the squad with Mahmudullah the biggest casualty as he drops out having failed to perform with the bat in his recent Test matches whilst Rubel Hossain, Soumya Sarkar and Al-Amin Hossain also make way.
  • Those four are replaced by Taskin Ahmed, Mehidy Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mustafizur whilst Bangladesh have also added a further two names with Yasir Ali and Hasan Mahmud handed their first Test call-ups.

ZIMBABWE

  • Zimbabwe were on the end of a heavy loss on their return to Test cricket as Sri Lanka swept them aside in their first clash but they responded well to eke out a draw in their second game which will stand them in good stead ahead of this one-off game with Bangladesh.
  • Zimbabwe have suffered a blow as they will be without captain Sean Williams who has stayed at home to be with his wife ahead of the birth of his first child with Craig Ervine to skipper the side in his absence.
  • The Zimbabweans will also be without Kyle Jarvis after he picked up an injury in the first Test against Sri Lanka last month and Tendai Chatara is also out with a knock with Chris Mpofu the only new name in the squad.

THE PREDICTION

Bangladesh have plenty to work on in this one-off Test match with Zimbabwe. They were outplayed against Pakistan in their last match and have made sweeping changes to their squad on the back of that. The pressure will be on to perform with plenty of places up for grabs in the side but that could spur them on. Zimbabwe showed some decent signs in their two-match series against Sri Lanka and they are likely to cause some issues for Bangladesh but the hosts should prove to be too good.
