THE LOWDOWN

ZIMBABWE

  • Zimbabwe’s last home cricket saw them book a place at the T20 World Cup later this year, winning their global qualifier on home soil earlier this month, accumulating five consecutive T20i victories in the process.
  • The hosts will be weakened here against Bangladesh with injuries to both bowlers Blessing Muzarabani and Tendai Chatara, therefore have been forced to call up a replacement in Victor Nyauchi.

BANGLADESH

  • Bangladesh last tasted victory in T20i cricket back in March against Afghanistan and come into this match looking to put their disappointing recent showing against West Indies in this format behind them.
  • Nurul Hasan has been named captain for this series, whilst the likes of Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim have all been rested.

THE PREDICTION

Although Zimbabwe are not at full-strength due to injuries, they have shown themselves to be a strong T20i unit on their own patch, performing excellently under pressure to seal a T20 World Cup place and with that home advantage in their favour here, they’ll be confident of overcoming the Tigers. It is an inexperienced Bangladesh side that will take to the field in Harare and the absence of players such as Shakib and Mahmudullah to name just two will surely have an impact, not to mention the recent T20i retirement of Tamim Iqbal. Therefore, consider backing Zimbabwe to come out victorious in this first T20i of the three-game series.
